Project Description

Building Enclosure Associates, LLC was retained to provide Consulting services to facilitiate the restoration of the historic building's South and West façades.

This restoration was necessary to preserve the integrity of the building enclosure, and to fulfill City of Boston Façade Ordinance 9-9.12 requirements.

Methodology

BEA evaluated the building façade through visual surveys and exploratory demolition in order to gather pertinent data on as-built conditions and to identify a scope of repair work.
The scope of work included repair and replacement of deteriorated stone elements, tuck pointing of all masonry joints, flashing installation at lintels and headers, repair of an existing large skylight at the top of the building, modification of the existing ice melt system along the projected cornice, and other repair work around the building.
BEA provided CA services and through submittal reviews and preiodic observation of restoration repair work, established and monitored technical quality standards for work performed throughout the multiple phases of the project.
Following completion of the repair work, a façade certification report was issued for submission by the Owner of the City of Boston Building Department.
